A 4Social Venture Series: Emma’s Acres, Their Story

Emma’s Acres: Reintegration, Restoration and Food Security

Emma’s Acres is a nationally recognized, award winning, agriculture social enterprise located in Mission, BC that is managed by L.I.N.C. (Long-term Inmates Now in the Community) Society.

Emma’s Acres: 1. Provides offenders with employment skills and reintegration supports as they are transitioning out of prison; 2. Assists survivors of serious crime who work at the farm alongside offenders or who participate in other activity or programs funded in part by produce sales; and 3. Enhances the food security in the District of Mission by creating a year round local source of non-spray, sustainably grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers.

Emma’s Acres produce vegetables, herbs and fruits grown naturally without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers on an 8-acre property leased to us by the District of Mission. The produce is sold at the Mission City Farmers’ Market, and plans are in the works to sell to local restaurants and stores. Some is donated to local non profits in the District of Mission including the food banks and the community kitchen.  The proceeds of the social enterprise business funds the work of the L.I.N.C. Society in the community and, in particular, its work with survivors of  serious crime.
