Expanding the Boundaries of Social Ventures

Scadding Court Community Centre demonstrates a twist on social ventures, it’s called Business out of a Box (BoB).  Business out of the Box (BoB) is a social franchise model created by Scadding Court Community Centre.

This social venture and enterprise model was created for aspiring entrepreneurs from a low income demographic. The program defined as a business opportunity for these entrepreneurs provides access to the capital and space necessary to start a business, which is typically out of reach. As a result, this demographic benefits from the opportunity to start a business, despite limited options and resources to get their ideas off the ground. However, implementing some creative problem solving and impactful partnerships, there were able to create quick and affordable vending spaces, which ultimately allow low-income entrepreneurs to flourish.
